Calcined Petroleum Coke
The main uses of petroleum coke are pre-baked anode and anode paste used in electrolytic aluminum, carbon industry production of carbon additive, graphite electrode, smelting industry silicon and fuel. According to the different sulfur content, it can be divided into high sulfur coke (sulfur content more than 3%) and low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 3%). Low sulfur coke can be used as anodic paste and prebaked anode for aluminum plant and graphite electrode for steel plant. The high quality low sulfur coke (sulfur content less than 0.5%) can be used to produce graphite electrode and carbonizer. Low-sulfur coke of general quality (less than 1.5% sulfur content) is often used to produce prebaked anodes. The low quality petroleum coke is mainly used in industrial silicon smelting and anode paste production. High-sulfur coke is commonly used as a fuel in cement factories and power plants.
In the graphite electrode used in steelmaking or anode paste (melting electrode) used in making aluminum and magnesium, in order to make petroleum coke (coke) to meet the requirements, the coke must be calcined. The calcination temperature is generally about 1300℃, the purpose is to remove the volatile petroleum coke as far as possible. In this way, the hydrogen content of petroleum coke re-products can be reduced, and the graphitization degree of petroleum coke can be improved, so that the high temperature strength and heat resistance of graphite electrode can be improved, and the conductivity of graphite electrode can be improved. Calcined is mainly used to produce graphite electrode, carbon paste products, emery sand, food-grade phosphorus industry, metallurgical industry and calcium carbide, among which the most widely used is graphite electrode. Coke can be directly used to produce silicon carbide and boron carbide as grinding material without forging. It can also be directly used as coke for blast furnace in metallurgical industry or as carbon brick lining for blast furnace wall, and can also be used as dense coke for casting process.
